Gyros 58-23672 Magnalite Pro Cordless Work Light Review

The Gyros Magnalite Pro Cordless Work Light makes working in the dark an almost pleasant experience thanks to its portability, flexibility, and the large amount of light it puts out. This work light can easily replace most automotive drop lights, flashlights, and even camping lanterns, yet it offers cool-to-the-touch bright light to illuminate any task. With a slender size and lithium-ion battery power, there are many things to like about this work light.

Gyros Magnalite Pro

The main body of the Gyros Magnalite Pro is made of ABS plastic, a common thermoplastic that is good for impact resistance even in low temperatures. The outside finish of the work light has a grippy feel that helps it be slip-resistant. There are 36 LED light sources arranged in three rows of twelve. The lights are controlled with a single push-button on/off switch, and there is only one level of light output.

The midsection of the work light has a pivot point that allows up to 120 degrees of movement. The pivot is tight, and it takes two hands to adjust the position. At first, this seemed like a problem, but we quickly realized that the stiff joint was a good thing that allows the work light to stay precisely in the position you put it in. The battery is removable, but doesn’t need to be removed in order to recharge the flashlight since the charger can plug into the base of the battery. There is also a magnet built into the base of the battery that allows the flashlight to be attached to any ferrous material. Since the magnet is inside the battery enclosure, there is no metal-to-metal contact.

The charge time for a low battery is 3.5 hours, and there is built-in overcharge protection so as not to damage the battery or the internals of the worklight. The upside is that the battery delivers around 6 hours of light on a single charge. From our experience with this worklight, this pretty much equates to several weeks of occasional use.

Gyros Magnalite Pro Testing and Use

Testing a light like the Gyros Magnalite Pro Cordless Work Light is a pretty easy task. Quite simply, we kept it handy in the shop and watched how the guys used it. Many times it was used in automotive applications because it made for a great work light when doing things like brake jobs and other engine maintenance. It was easy to just attach the magnetic base to the vehicle and position the light exactly where we needed it.

Another application was when we were doing an electrical wiring problem diagnosis. We were able to attach the light to a piece of metal conduit while we checked the wires in the box – the whole time bathing the area with light. The light is very bright, with a wide, even spread when kept a few feet away from the work area. When up close, there is a pretty hot spot, but that is to be expected with the arrangement of the LEDs and the silver reflector.
