The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is working with Irwin Tools on a voluntaryย recall of their Classic Series Circular Saw Blade 3-Pack. The blister packs contain oneย 10-inch trim and finish saw blade with 60 teeth (60T) and two 10-inchย general purpose saw blades with 40 teeth (40T). The blades are stackedย offset in the packs. The packaging is blue, orange and yellow and hasย the words โIrwinโ and โClassic Seriesโ on the front top left corner andย โ3 Circular Saw Bladesโ on the front lower left corner. Model numberย โICSLD3PKโ is located on the front top right corner. But hereโs the thing: this isnโt really a consumer-centric recall. Itโs more of one that (in our opinion) should be targeted to retailers. I mean, if you bought the pack, youโre probably already opened it up and are using the blades.
Irwin Circular Saw Blades Recalled
You see, the issue is that the saw blades can fall out of the bottom of the plastic packaging, posing a laceration hazard. So, basically, thereโs nothing wrong with the productโฆ just the packaging. So if youโre already using these blades, youโre good to go. But, if you want to, for example, give the package you have to your dear old father-in-law, then you may want to tape it upโฆ or contact Irwin for a free storage container. But seriously, just tape it up.
We have to admit โ this is one of the weirdest recalls weโve ever seen. In either case, here are the details:
- Name of Product: Classic Series Circular Saw Blade 3-Pack
- Units: About 55,260
- Manufacturer: Irwin Industrial Tool Company, Huntersville, N.C.
- Incidents/Injuries: Irwin has received three reports of the saw blades falling out of the packaging. No injuries were reported.
- Retailers: Loweโs stores nationwide from approximately October 2011 through November 2011 for $40.
- Remedy: Consumers should immediately contact Irwin to receive a freeย storage container for the saw blades. Consumers should not disturb anyย saw blades that remain in the packaging but should store the saw bladesย in the packaging in a safe and secure location until the containerย arrives, then immediately transfer the saw blades to the container andย discard the original packaging.
