Leatherman Wave Multitool 3

If youย havenโ€™t heard of Leatherman you are definitely new to tools, or you have neverย aspired to be a Boy Scout. The popular multitool company has made one of theย most well-recognized one-tool-does-all inventions in the industry and has onlyย expanded upon its initial offerings. The new Leatherman Wave tool offersย an almost unbelievable assortment of goodies to the handyman. Itโ€™s wholly different from the Leatherman Super Tool 300 or the innovative Leatherman Tread, but it still packs one of the biggest punches in multi-tools.

You mayย never actually use all of the tools found in the Leatherman Wave Multitool, butย you wonโ€™t regret having something around that is as well-equipped for almostย any scenario. Letโ€™s face it, if Iโ€™m lost in the jungle or dealing with the zombie apocalypse , this is the tool Iโ€™mย going to want to have with meโ€ฆWell, this and a machete.

Sporting a bunch more tools than the well-regarded Leatherman Kick Multi-tool, theย Leatherman Wave is a hefty, but light multi-toolโ€”weighing in at just over half aย pound. Thatโ€™s enough to make you take it seriously, but not so much that youย canโ€™t tolerate having it in your pocket for extended periods of time. The Leatherman Waveย is a multifunction tool youโ€™ll want to keep around when youโ€™re NOT on a particularย jobsite. That is to say, its certainly not a replacement for the real things,ย but itโ€™s absolutely more convenient that bringing along the dozens of tools itย encompasses. Just donโ€™t mistake it for a TSA approved toolโ€ฆthat might take some more time.

We foundย the needlenose pliers to be easy to use. They also felt durable, likely due toย the stainless steel construction of the tool body. The saw blade and serratedย and clip point knives were durable and could be locked into position byย depressing the locking mechanism and sliding the blades past the lock untilย they opened. These particular tools, along with the file, can only be used whenย the tool is fully closed.

Leatherman Wave โ€“ Itโ€™s All in the Details

Some of theย more โ€œdetailโ€ tools like the small bit screwdriver and the scissorsย are certainly dainty, but felt as if you could get needed use out of them when inย a pinch. Since the tools originate from the larger body, you actually can getย quite a bit of torque as a result, making for easy loosening of stubbornย screws. Speaking of screws, the large driver can be outfitted with somewhatย standard bits, though the ones supplied are small and double-sided to maximizeย the space and give you access to #1 and #2 Philips bits. To keep everythingย fitting correctly youโ€™ll want to stay with these bits should you encounter theย need to replace them over time.

This is aย tool that should probably be in your truck or on your person at all times. Itโ€™sย incredibly convenient and its build quality takes it out of theย โ€œgimmickโ€ department and drops it right down into the โ€œdarnย usefulโ€ aisle. Itโ€™s difficult to evaluate the tool in terms of its value.ย If you add up all that it replaces it would get a 10, especially since you canย plan on picking it up at over 25% off retail at most locations. As for itsย real-world value, thatโ€™s a subjective rating and we think it hits home as anย all-around good tool to have, or give to that special someone who hasnโ€™tย already bought it for him or herself.
