Klein Clamping Worklight Has a Grip on Job Site Lighting

Klein is going deeper into the job site lighting category with their new Klein Clamping Worklight. This is a new area of lighting for the company focused on the electrical trade. While clamping lights aren’t unheard of, they aren’t the norm, so let’s consider what the benefits are and where it’s a good fit.

Look Ma, No Hands

The Klein Clamping Worklight uses a 2″ clamp to attach to, well, just about any surface you can wrap the clamps around. Ladders, buckets, studs, and joists are all ideal candidates for this light. It also has plastic teeth just above the rubber clamping feet that give it the ability to clamp on conduit or other pipes. A quick-release tab loosens the clamp’s grip from the surface.

The Klein Clamping Worklight doesn’t necessarily need to clamp to anything for it to find some usefulness. You can reposition the rubber feet to let the light to stand up on its own. This isn’t the most stable work light you’ll ever work with in this configuration, but it’ll work.

Should you find yourself on the job without a flashlight, this light can fold up compactly enough to pull flashlight duty.

The Klein Clamping Worklight features a 360° rotating head that glows in the dark. It has two power settings, running for up to 8 hours at the 250-lumen setting and up to 10 hours on the 125-lumen setting. It carries 10′ drop protection and an IP54 rating to protect it from dust and moisture.

With a maximum of 250 lumens and a spot beam, this is going to light up the specific small space you’re working in, not the entire area. However, the throw is wide enough to give you plenty of light even when you have to mount it close to what you’re working on. The light is very clean, with a center that’s not so bright that it blinds you to what you’re working on.

The Bottom Line

The Klein Clamping Worklight makes a valid addition to your tool bag. While it has a larger footprint than something like Klein’s Magnetic Flashlight with Worklight, the benefit is that you don’t need a ferrous surface to attach it.

With a 4 AA power supply, you’ll potentially be replacing batteries every day that you use the light if you’re on a job site that doesn’t have power yet. That might leave you wanting a lithium-ion rechargeable option, but it does keep the cost down to roughly $40.

If you really need a clamp light, this is a solid option for you (that also works great for camping). If you won’t use the clamping feature on a regular basis, Klein has other lighting options that are a better fit.
