Being an avid tool-user, I have a great appreciation for well-made pieces of workmanship, no matter where they are found. Thatโs why, when I came across Jord wooden watches, I became fascinated by their design and attention to detail. Jord (pronounced in one syllable as โYowrdโ) wooden watches areย wondrously madeโeach one is like a mini project contained on your wrist. From the intricate detail of the links and watch face, to the exsquisite finish that accompanies each watch, Jord has combined machine and nature in a way not seen since the movie The Terminator.
Our review sample was a Jord Fieldcrest Series Wood Watch in Black. The retail price of this model isย $120, and Jord has four colors in the Fieldcrest series:ย Zebrawood & Maple,ย Maple,ย Natural Green, andย Black (our sample). We chose the Black model because it has a nice, rich, look that helps it work with nearly any outfit. Itโs a nice, formalย color that really pops in anything fromย business casual toย even formal attire. Jord makes 32 total watches in a host ofย colors, though not every color is available in each design. There are both square and round faces, as well as large and small sizes.
Each one ships in a custom wooden box featuring the Jord logo. The lid of the box slides open to reveal the watch which is carefully packed inside. The Jord Fieldcrest Series is a classic midsize watch, so it works well with those of us who donโt have gigantic wrists and hands. It has a rich-lookingย black wood face that shows the wood grain underneath.
Continuing down, you canโt ignore the beautifully smooth strapโalso made out of wood, which can be adjusted to length by unscrewing the pins and removing individual links (youโll want to balance the watch by removing links from each end equally).ย While I feel this is clearly a manโs watch, itโs also marketed for women and certainly small enough to work on all but the most dainty wrists. Jord has an even smaller Ely model that also comes in Black and which may work better for womenย looking for an even smaller sized timepiece. On their website, Jord actuallyย organizes watches into models particularly designed for men and women.
Putting on and removing the watch is done by simply pressing the deployment buckle with the central push button. This allows each side of the band to release, giving you room to slip the watch on or take it off. Itโs easy to use, and I never felt or experienced the watch coming off prematurely.
The Jord Fieldcrest Wooden Watches use a scratch resistant mineral face that should hold up pretty well over time. It uses aย Citizen Miyota Quartzย movement, and the wood and watch are splash proof, but not intended to be submerged for any length of time.
