Mascot Frankfurt Jacket and Springfield Pants Review

Fall is here, and we got to check out a new line of clothing from Mascot Workwear that’s perfect for the coming colder months. These clothes really seem to be a rugged choice for those whose jobs take them into mud, rain, concrete and more. The entire Mascot Workwear line is huge, spanning over 500 different tops, bottoms, boots, and more. We got to check out the Mascot Workwear Frankfurt Pilot Jacket and Mascot Springfield Pants, but the brand covers everything from safety gear to outfits in just about any color imaginable. They even make children’s trousers, bibs (overalls), underwear, and boiler suits—plus every accessory under the sun. This review focuses on the Mascot Workwear Frankfurt Jacket and Springfield Pants which I got to wear extensively over several weeks.

Mascot Springfield Pants Build Quality

The first thing to mention about the Mascot Workwear Frankfurt Jacket and Springfield Pants is that they are extremely durable and well-made. From the triple stitched seams to the heavy-duty zippers and reinforced polyester holster pockets—these work clothes are tough. The triple stitching appears at both the leg and crotch areas. The waist on these pants has a nice taper, which allows the built-in holster pockets to sit nicely without appearing like they were haphazardly tacked on at the last minute. You can get the Springfield pants in three colors, including Dark Navy, Black, or Dark Anthracite. At just under $80 they aren’t the cheapest work pants you can buy, but they held up well and should give you years of good, dependable use.

I found the pant legs were also perfectly shaped to accommodate the tops of my work boots, and giving me breathing room without feeling baggy or oversized. There are ample belt loops that accommodate a 2″ leather bridle leather-style belt, and a handy D-ring is located on the right for attaching anything you need quick access to.

There are more pockets on this pants than a billiard hall. You have the expected front pants pockets, plus the polyester holsters with insets. Then you have the side pockets on the thighs plus back pockets to round it all off. On the knees are built-in pad holders that have an easy-access top flap that beats out any other system I’ve seen, including my favorite Blaklader Bantam pocket utility pants. All of the pockets have nice reinforcement and look like they can practically hold  a lot without tearing.

An adjustable hammer loop sits high on the left thigh, and I really liked the integrated “carpenter pencil pockets” located on the right side below the hip. Mascot uses what’s known as “contrast stitching” to accentuate the stitch design, and it produces a very attractive pant. Reflectors are also added into the material of the holster pockets and also the front and backs of the knees for safety.

Mascot Frankfurt Jacket Build Quality

Like the Springfield pants, the Mascot Frankfurt jacket is available in multiple colors, including Dark Navy, Black, or Dark Grey/Black (similar to the Dark Anthracite of the Springfield pants). The jacket we received was two-toned, with a stylish design that looked “fashionably manly”—there, I just invented that term…let’s run with it. The jacket is heavy, insulated well against cold with quilted fleece—but it’s also breathable. It’s also wind and waterproof with taped seams and a lined hood that detaches. It zips up tight, and there’s a nice “storm flap” that buttons up overtop to truly secure you against even a strong, cold wind. Even the chest and side pockets have storm flaps (and they’re also zipped).

Mascot is also ready for the high the construction professional, with an integrated phone pocket located just inside the breast pocket. It’s quite easy to access, and you can image that will be handy when it’s rainy. To get a really tight fit and keep out the wind, you can cinch up the drawstring which sits around the inside bottom of the jacket. Lastly, the Mascot Frankfurt jacket places reflectors on the sleeves for safety.

I love the fit of this jacket. It’s comfortable, yet pliable—odd for such a protective and layered product. Still, if you’re working in zero degree temps (or worse), this is exactly the kind of durable jacket that will make the day go by without you having to worry about staying warm. While a cordless heated jacket might be nice—this could just be the next best thing!

Wash and Wear

I had this Mascot Frankfurt jacket and Springfield pants for several weeks, wearing them on everything from general construction to framing, decking, and roofing jobs. In every case the Springfield pants helped me work more efficiently by giving me quick access to pencils, fasteners, and tapes—while the jacket kept me warm and gave me a stylish look to boot. I found it easy to maneuver in both—sometimes a warm jacket will restrict your arms too much, but I didn’t feel too much of that with the Frankfurt. I also really liked the easy-to-access top-loading knee pad pockets which I filled with Redbacks knee pads on more than one occasion. On my Blaklader pants it’s often easier to put the pads in before you don the pants. With the Mascot Springfield pants, you can slip pads in and out all day—it only takes a few seconds.

Conclusion

You may wonder why we reviewed Mascot worwear—particularly if you’ve never heard of them. The thing is, though, they’re huge overseas. And now they’re being sold through The Home Depot—which means that now you’ll get to be excited about them. Once you try on some of these items it’s likely you’ll have a new favorite clothing brand—particularly if you work in colder climates or require truly durable, but flexible work clothing that can take a beating and still come out looking great.
