The Ridgid 18V Cordless Jigsaw Maximizes Control and Reduces Vibration
When I think of a jigsaw, I think of control and finesse. They have the ability to cut curves, remove very small amounts of material for proper fitting, and cut through just about any material with the appropriate blade. Now, itโs the latest Ridgid 18V Cordless Jigsawโs turn to show off what it has to offer.
Ridgid 18V Cordless Jigsaw Performance

- No-Load Speed: 3,450 SPM
- Stroke Length: 1 in.
- Blade Type: T-Shank
- Blade Changes: Keyless
Ridgidโs latest cordless jigsaw features four speed modes with a top speed of 3,450 max SPM. That puts its cutting speed right in line with the Ryobi brushless model, and trailing right behind the Milwaukee M18 2737. Additionally, this model has a 1-inch stroke length, allowing it to quickly and efficiently chew through material.

Variable speed controls arenโt new to jig saws, but Ridgid nails it with their placement. Ridgid placed a small blister button on the top of the D-handle, so itโs easy to cycle through the speeds using your thumb.
The Ridgid R86344 has four orbital action settings that affect the overall cutting speed. If youโre looking for faster cut-speed, the most aggressive action is where youโll want to turn. However, if youโre looking for a better finish, dial back the orbital action for a less aggressive cut.

If youโre making longer cuts or working around a complex series of cuts, the lock on button is a fantastic addition. The ability to not worry about keeping the trigger down and just focusing on maneuvering the saw is a win in our book.
When it comes to vibration, itโs roughly the same as what weโre feeling from the more premium models. Due to the nature of the tool, you canโt eliminate it completely. However, we believe Ridgid did a great job of keeping it under control.
Ridgid 18V Cordless Jigsaw Design

- Model: Ridgid R86344
- Power Source: Ridgid 18V battery
- Weight: 4.4 lbs. (bare), 5.9 lbs. (with 4.0Ah Max Output battery)
- Length: 8.5 in.
- Height: 8.5 in.
- Handle Type: D-handle
The Ridgid R86344 weighs 4.4 pounds as a bare tool and a very reasonable 5.9 pounds with the recommended 4.0Ah Max Output battery. It stands 8.5 inches tall and is, oddly enough, 8.5 inches long as well.

The D-handle frame is draped in a textured rubber overmold that provides excellent grip during intricate cuts. Compared to previous Ridgid jigsaws, the top handle is more rounded, so it contours nicely to your hand in a variety of positions.
Ridgid tells us that they redesigned the die-cast shoe to help reduce vibration and increase visibility. They also include a non-marring shoe cover to avoid scuffing and scratching your work surface.
Reviewerโs Note: Ridgidโs non-marring shoe cover includes two spaces on the inside for spare blades.

Just like the previous model, the bevel adjustment is tool-free. The shoe pivots up to 45ยฐ left and right with positive stops at common angles. Additionally, thereโs an integrated dust port with a corresponding vacuum attachment. While the cut line blower might work against it in some respects, itโs a nice feature to have, particularly for fine finish cutting and fiber cement board.

The Bottom Line
Overall, we think Ridgid hit the mark with the performance and design upgrades on their latest cordless jigsaw. The cutting speed, vibration level, and feature set are right on par with what we expect from entry-level pro and prosumer models. If control and cut quality are high on your priority list, then the Ridgid 18V Cordless Jigsaw is right up your alley.
